Dugald MacCormick was the seventh son of Neil MacCormick b.1836 and Annabella MacLachlan.
In 1891, at the age of 16 years, Dugald was a quarryman at Tor Mor quarry on Mull. When he was married, 1913, in Milton, Glasgow, he was a Master Mariner.
