Catherine (known as Kate), was born 26th April 1854 in the village of Kirkfield. Catherine remained single throughout her life.

On the 1881 Canada Census, in Eldon Township, she is the only family member enumerated with her father, John. In 1891 census she is listed as ‘Katie’, age 36, still at home with her family. By 1901, it appears that John McCormick, the family patriarch has died or moved away from Ontario [he would be 83 years old in 1901], and Catherine (Kate) has gone to live with her sister, Flora, in Toronto.

Flora, born in Kirkfield, had married John Howe in Toronto, 2nd July 1884. The witnesses to her wedding were her brother, Neil McCormick and sister, Maggie. By the time of the 1901 census, John and Flora had two sons, John G. and Archibald A, and living with the family was Catherine McCormick, age 47.

By the 1911 Canada Census, Catherine had left Toronto and gone to live with her niece, Mary K. Blair, in Brant, a suburb of Burlington, Halton County, not far from Hamilton. Mary K., born in Kirkfield, had married Henry Jessop Blair, a railway agent, on 23rd March 1904 in Toronto. At the time of her marriage, she was age 26; she named her parents as John and Margaret McCormick.

The 1911 census finds the family living in Brant with four young children and Catherine, listed as an ‘Aunt’ [actually Mary’s Aunt, not an aunt to Henry, the head of the family].

Catherine’s death came in St Joseph’s Hospital, Hamilton, (directly across the harbor from Burlington) on the 23rd March 1923. She was 67 years and 11 months old, and she named her parents: John McCormick, born in Scotland, and May McFarlane, also born in Scotland. The informant for the death registration was Mrs. H. J. Blair, Catherine’s niece, daughter of her brother, John.
